Site Description

Wetlands

The site is a dammed lake of about 200ha created in the mainstream of the Totsukawa river in Kii Mountains. Rich secondary forests of the Fagaceae Castanopsis and Fagaceae Querus grow on surrounding slope around the lake, and the branches spread out over its surface, producing good feeding and hiding grounds for a large number of wintering Mandarin Ducks.
