Site Description

Grassland

Okogashima islet, which is located about 1.7 km southwest off shore of Sakurajima island, is an uninhabited islet with the circumference of about 1.4 km, with an area of about 37,000 ㎡ and with an altitude of 38.3 m at its highest point. Deposits of volcanic ash and sand are covering the andesite layer of the Tertiary period. There are sheer cliffs on the western side, while their upper side has table-like forms. They are covered with trees and shrubs.
