Site Description

Artificial landscapes (terrestrial)

The site is located in a basin surrounded by Chugoku mountains at an elevation of about 300 m above sea level. Paddy fields are expanded to the foot of the mountains. The site is the only area visited by wintering Hooded Cranes in Honshu. As such, the site is designated as a Special Natural Monument together with Izumi City in Kagoshima Prefecture.
