Site Description

Forest

The site includes mountainous forests of subalpine nature centering on Mt. Tsurugisan(1,955 m), the second highest peak in western Japan, situated in Tokushima Prefecture, Mt. Miune(1,893 m) and ridges connecting these peaks. Vegetation consists mainly of mixed forests of Tsuga diversifolias and Fagus crenata. In the neighborhood of most peaks and ridges it takes on the appearance of grassland. In the area at the level of 1,000 m or lower, there are many artificial forests of Cyryptomeria japonica, etc.
